Building My OS in Arch Linux Ep. 2 – Installing GNOME Desktop Environment

Having used Ubuntu and Manjaro as a daily driver for over three months, I became very intrigued with the idea of assembling your own operating system from scratch.

In this episode, I install my GNOME Desktop environment. There were a few challenges along the way that I needed to solve. I allocated too little disk space when I created to VM and I needed to enlarge my partitions before I could install Gnome.

Arch is a very minimalistic Linux distro and comes with very few things preinstalled, so you have to do everything yourself. I think it is a great way to better understand the elements a working Linux environment needs and how to configure them.

In the next episode, I will set up the applications I need and customize the GNOME desktop environment to suit my taste.
